«Ευαγγελισμός» και «Άγιος Δημήτριος»
Sep. 21st, 2019 02:58 pmSo, yesterday we had rain, and I don't even remember when we had the previous one.
It was raining both in Vilnius when I've been there in August and in Bulgaria when I've been there in July, but I can't really remember when was it raining in Athens lol. Probably in Spring?
Well, at least yesterday's rain was light, without thunderstorm and it was raining for just 20-30 minutes.
Not that bad really, especially if you can't remember when was it raining the previous time. A bit refreshing and all the scents of the plants became so much stronger due to the moisture. Fucking great.
But the temperature dropped significantly, well below 30C. If fact, I'm not sure it yesterday it surpassed the 24C mark, and today it's the same. Not that cloudy, though.
The thing that really bothers me is that they are going to rename metro stations Evangelismos and Agios Dimitrois: https://www.zougla.gr/greece/article/alazoun-onoma-i-sta8mi-tou-metro-evagelismos-ke-agios-dimitrios
Why, for fuck's sake?
Isn't it great, when different places keep their names for decades, centuries and even millenniums?
Why rename metro stations built less than twenty years ago, which still bear historical names?
Yeah, there certainly are cases when renaming may be justified by some reason, like when Greece became Republic, the renaming of Royal Garden to National Garden was somewhat justified, but for fuck's sake, metro station Evangelismos is named after the historical Νοσοκομείο Ευαγγελισμός which dates back to 1881, and metro station Agios Dimitrios is named after the suburb of the same name.
Why rename them after some dudes, these Παύλος Μπακογιάννης and Αλέκος Παναγούλης?
Were they really that significant?
OK, if they really were, then come on, build new metro stations and name them after them right from the start.
WHY RENAME EXISTING METRO STATIONS?
And yeah, Παύλος Μπακογιάννης, it's just great.
Brother-in-law of the current Prime Minister and son-in-law of another Prime Minister.
Now, let's name after him a metro station right in the heart of the city, abandoning it's original historical name.
Well, maybe we should go even further? Why stop here? And why Evangelismos and Agios Dimitrios? Let's rename Syntagma and Acropolis stations after them, not Evangelismos and this obscure Agios Dimitrios on the outskirts of the city.
Yeah, why not, really.
