I've just spent a few hours reading a super-interesting thread, which I stumbled upon while looking for information about Jeanne Calment, who is claimed to be the oldest verified supercentenarian.

It turns out she most probably was a fraud, and more specifically a daughter of the real Jeanne Calment, who had died in the mid-30s, while her identity was subsequently stolen by her daughter, who later claimed to be Jeanne Calment herself. And the motive behind all that was to evade the taxes.

The evidence is overwhelming, and a year ago some Russian researchers even published a research on the case.

Well, their point of view is not largely accepted (to say the least), but many things point out it was exactly this way.

So, the thread itself: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20625547

The research: https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/rej.2018.2167

And one equally interesting case, for further reading: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sogen_Kato

Basically, now my point of view is that humans can live up to 100 years, not more, and those who claim that they are older are just fraudsters, who in some cases may be even unaware of the fact they are fraudsters (yeah, strange things happen sometimes).

There are areas where lie should never be accepted as truth, and this is exactly the case.
